Course description

Digital design skills are increasingly important in the fashion industry, particularly in developing a fashion brand into a viable business and marketing it on social media.

Adobe Photoshop allows designers to visualise their design collections and communicate their creative vision effectively.

Taking place over a single weekend, the Adobe Photoshop for Fashion Short Course teaches students how to use Adobe Photoshop to edit and repeat their patterns and drawings. Students learn how to translate their drawings into production-ready prints and collections.

Students work on practical design briefs specifically targeted at developing digital literacy, starting with Photoshop foundation skills on day 1 and designing textiles and patterns on day 2.

Each student will have access to their own computer at London College of Fashion and receive step-by-step guidance to build their confidence. With support from the tutor, students develop strong digital skills that can translate to other design areas beyond fashion.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:

• Use digital software to translate and develop designs from paper to digital
• Create a digital fashion range
• Create a repeat pattern from an original illustration
• Understand how the fashion industry uses software to develop and communicate their ranges
• Understand how to compile an industry portfolio

Who should attend this course?

This course is aimed at those with a passion for fashion, illustration or textile design. Students should want to learn the digital skills needed to translate their paper ideas into a digital format.

The course would be an excellent fit for individuals who dream of working in the fashion industry as designers or want to start their own creative ranges and learn how to get their creative skills ready for industry.

Entry requirements: students must have basic computer skills but do not need to have previous experience of Adobe Photoshop.
