
Multichannel Art Direction Short Course
Course description
Taught through a combination of lectures, practical exercises and discussions, this 5-week evening course provides a practical insight into the field of art direction in the contemporary landscape.
The course explores a range of examples of art direction across different mediums. Students gain an insight into the unique features of the practice of art direction in relation to adjacent creative practices such as graphic design and design for branding.
Over the 5 weeks, students learn to identify the practical processes of art direction and gain an understanding of the tools and methods that can be used to showcase creative ideas.
The course is designed to provide professional benefits for anyone who wants to incorporate art direction into their current creative practice and learn about the various practical aspects of the field.
Please note: to get the most out of the course, students will be expected to engage with assigned weekly tasks outside of class, equivalent to a minimum of 5 hours.
Course outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- Identify the practical processes of art direction
- Understand the wide use of art direction across different industries
- Create useful methods of liaising with and directing different creative stakeholders
- Understand and identify the different tools and methods to showcase creative ideas
- Understand methods and processes of visually presenting the creative directions

This 5-week evening course is aimed at designers / aspiring designers, creatives, creative managers and entrepreneurs interested in diversifying their careers.
It would be an excellent fit for those looking to progress to the roles of Art Director, Senior Art Director and Head of Creative in order to manage and direct holistic visual direction. Familiarity with aspects of the creative fields / design is recommended but not essential.
