How to apply for Pre-sessional

Follow these steps to apply for a Pre-sessional English course.

1. Submit your UAL main course application

  • Main course examples: BA Advertising, MA Fine Art
  • Submit your main course application in the (or ).
  • After you submit, Pre-sessional application links will appear in the Portal.

2. Choose your Pre-sessional course

Check the full Pre-sessional eligibility criteria.

3. Choose a visa type

For on campus Pre-sessional, two visa types are available:

  • Standard Visitor visa
  • Student visa.

To determine your visa eligibility, read our Pre-sessional Visas and immigration guidance.

Online Pre-sessional is delivered remotely and does not require a visa. Students will attend online sessions from their home country.

4. Submit your Pre-sessional application

Log into the UAL Applicant Portal.  Click on the pink Pre-sessional application link.

Your application must be complete before we can process it.

5. Pre-sessional offer

If your application is successful, and if there is capacity on the course, we will send you an offer. Please read your offer letter carefully, including our linked Terms and Conditions and UAL’s Privacy Policy.

You have 5 working days to:

  • accept your offer in the UAL Applicant Portal
  • pay the full Pre-sessional fee using Flywire. Flywire is a quick, easy, and secure way to pay. Instructions are in your Pre-sessional offer letter.

If you don’t want to join Pre-sessional, decline your offer under the ‘my applications’ tab in the UAL Applicant Portal.

If you don’t respond within 5 working days, we will withdraw the offer.

6. Booking confirmation

After we confirm your payment, we will email you a booking confirmation.

The booking confirmation guarantees your place on the course.

Please don’t book flights or accommodation until you receive the booking confirmation.

7. Changes, cancellations, and refunds

Want to change to a different Pre-sessional course?

To change course before you receive an offer, email presessional-admissions@arts.ac.uk. We will advise you if a change is possible.

To change course after you receive an offer but before you accept it, decline your current offer in the UAL Applicant Portal. Then submit a new application for a different course. Applications are processed in the order they are received. You are not guaranteed a new offer.

To change course after you accept an offer, you must cancel your current offer by submitting a . Check our Terms and Conditions to see if you’re eligible for a refund. Then, submit a new application for a different course. You are not guaranteed a new offer.

Don’t want to take Pre-sessional anymore?

To cancel your application before receiving an offer, withdraw your application in the UAL Applicant Portal.

To cancel an offer you have received but not yet accepted, decline your offer in the UAL Applicant Portal.

To cancel your booking after you accept your offer, submit a . Check our Terms and Conditions to see if you’re eligible for a refund. If we have sent you a CAS, it will be cancelled, and you can’t get another UAL Pre-sessional CAS.
